This review is for Caltex, Campbell Town TAS

I drive from Hobart to smithton quite often, at least every fortnight, and I always enjoy stopping at the Campbell town caltex. It's 24 hours, and the lady that works there is always so genuinely friendly and sweet! They also stock wonka nerdalicious bars, which I can't seem to find anywhere else! Love it.

The pizzas from Penguin Pizza Pub are to die for, I always get the hot pizza with extra chili (yum!) the prices are also reasonable but they are not open on Sunday, which is weird because that's my "I'm not cooking tonight" night, as it is with many of my friends! The service can be patchy if you're not a "local", but mostly it's good. I did get the death stares once when I came in two minutes before they were scheduled to start cooking though, and was told very tartly that I would have to wait to place my order (90 seconds as it turned out).

A bit expensive ($40 for a large cake!) but they are absolutely delicious. I get a cake from here every six months or so for various birthdays and events, and the service is always fantastic. I am always served by the same girl, who is great! Five stars!

This review is for Andy's Bakery, Westbury TAS

It's great that Andy's is open 24 hours, and I remember when the old highway used to go through westbury we would always get a pizza pie from Andy's, but unfortunately it's gone WAY downhill since then. My sister and I made a special detour off the highway to get a pizza pie from there in January, and what we got was dry, stale and inedible. The young guy who served us was lovely, but I ended up taking my pie back after one bite and asking for a replacement because it was just so bad, and the woman whom I asked the replacement from seemed really shirty that I had done so. She was not gracious about it at all and snapped "Well, they're the NEW ones we just cooked!" I eventually got a potato pie instead ($5, too much for pies!) but i was so uncomfortable eating there by then that we drove to the park instead. I wouldn't eat another pie from there but I would have the gelato :)

This review is for Salt Cafe Fish Restaurant, West Moonah TAS

Salt is ok, a bit overpriced but the meals are usually good. Last time I had the pork po' boy, and it was tasty but the bread was a bit stodgy. My lunch date had the angus burger, which looked tasty and home made but it was stone cold! I would go again but it's not one of my favorites.

I had dinner here for the first time last night, and it's probably the best Thai food at a reasonable cost in Hobart. The pad Thai was lovely, the seafood laksa was delicious, and I also had curry puffs and satay that were just like the satay you get in Thailand! The prices are very reasonable, and you can dine in or take away.

I regularly fly jet star, and while I usually find it cheap, easy and pleasant my last experience was anything but. The check in lady was so rude to myself, my husband and friend when we were checking in to our flight to Bangkok, we walked away from the desk upset and angry. She was also not displaying her name badge otherwise we would have made a complaint about her. She also seated us as far away from each other as possible, even though there were three seats together like was asked her for. Will think twice before flying with them again.

This review is for Smokey Joe's Creole Cafe, Launceston TAS

Hands down the best food I have EVER eaten! I can't wait to go again, I had the beef enchilada and Cajun chicken bites and my husband had the gumbo. The portion of gumbo could have been a little bigger, but it also came with delicious crusty bread that I ended up stealing off his plate because it was so good! We also had tequila sunrises and margaritas, and the peach cobbler for dessert. Honestly the best food and the best night out we have had for a long time. And the service was impeccable.

This review is for Irish Murphy's, Launceston TAS

I LOVE going to Irish Murphy's any time I visit Launceston, the staff are awesome, there is always live music and the general patrons are well behaved and friendly. They have an indoor and outdoor bar, the outdoor bar being on the rooftop beer garden which has heaters so its still very pleasant even in winter. My only gripe is that there are not enough ladies toilets! But five stars for everything else :)

This review is for The Beach Restaurant, Blackmans Bay TAS

verified email - 12 May 2013

The beach is a nice restaurant and the portion sizes are ok, probably a little too big, but it just gets too noisy and cramped in there. The tables are too close together and no matter how freezing cold it is the always seem to have the doors wide open. Last time we were there we asked to close the door because it was about 8C outside and the waitress rudely said "Well we can't just close it because ONE table wants it closed" even though she had seated us right in the doorway. I had the burger on that occasion and it was about one foot high, which is a very generous portion but there was just no way I could fit it in my mouth to eat it and had to disassemble it and eat everything separately!
