I visited The Italian for dinner with a group of three friends - two from interstate - on a Saturday night a couple of months back; They were staying on Collins street, and as none of us are Melbourne CBD regulars, we were unsure on where to go;
The clerk at my friends' hotel recommended a walk along Flinders Lane to find something, and after walking past several boutique restaurants and bars that looked ridiculously overcrowded, we wound up at The Italian; It's a little further down on Flinders Lane than other food places, and in more of an industrial area than other places, but the outside of the building is deceiving:
Inside, the Italian is cozy and warm. The service was incredible - our waiter was friendly and helpful, the food was served promptly, and it was delicious!

They were able to cater to our party of four's dietary needs - including two vegetarians, and two with food allergies.

It was a great experience, and I would definitely return!

Still delivers on quality and excellence of service. On of the very few venues that can compete with Rockpool. The advantage of THE ITALIAN, is its location - much more convenient for business entertaining than Rockpool.

Approximate cost: $45

We had an absolutely amazing time at this place. We received a voucher as part of a community auction and attended as a group of 6. Despite the fact we were using a presumably donated voucher, we did not feel at all like we were treated any differently to regular customers.

The food was amazing, the service was exceptional and the atmosphere was really relaxed.

As a direct result of how much we were enjoying ourselves, we ended up exceeding our voucher by a significant amount.

HIGHLY recommended.

The food is perfectly executed, and the menu is changed according to available produce, with a good balance and variety.
The waiter service is attentive and friendly, but discrete and courteous. For allergies, the kitchen is very willing to accommodate.
As befits 101, the surrounds are elegant and refined.
All things considered, this place was great value.
