Open all the time and has been around forever. Can be quiet during the day but heats up late. Good food mostly with a Greek style or twist and very good souvlaki. For filling basic food great place to stop late night Friday/Saturday.
This might be a "happening place to be" at 2am, but at lunchtime it is a stark and bare joint, but with really good food. You can see the meat cooking on the gyros when you arrive and although it is austerely decorated with very basic furnishings, the "famous" souvlakis and other food is great. Go back for the good food at good value. When I go I have either the lamb, chicken or combination (of lamb & chicken) souvlaki ... it's good. The Greek Salad is great and generous. If you want to have good, reliable, fresh food without worrying about luxurious surroundings then this is the place for you. Arrive right at 12 though as a queue forms quickly.
Approximate cost: $15
Yeap I agree great tasting souvlakis to be enjoyed at this establishment, nevermind the decor i say :)
i might try it out during lunchtime just too see what it's like xx
Open 24 hours, this Greek restaurant always has customers inside and sometimes lining up outside the door. The souvlakis are cheap and really good. The perfect meal to soak up some alcohol after a night of drinks in the city. Yet, if you dine here earlier in the night, it's a great place to bring friends, coworkers or family for a nice dinner. The meals are quite nice, but less value than the souvlaki (hard to beat $10, but mains are around $20-$35).
I never eat the lamb souvlaki, because I've had two instances where I found chunks of fat/grizzle in it. Others who are less sensitive about that sort of thing (to me it's nauseating) have never complained and look forward to a lamb souvlaki every time. I usually go for the rissole souvlaki - really filling and tasty!
Such a great restaurant. The food is amazing!! It can be a little noisy during peak dining times. Is is also family friendly, lots of kids and families when I have been there.
Love this place. Its a Melbourne institution. The suvas are AWESOME and its great that they are open 24 hours. Go for the chicken/lamb mix suva with lots of garlic sauce.
I went there with a few friends (who are regulars) and I enjoyed a delicious souvlaki, it was freshly cooked and the lamb was tender and full of flavour.
would visit this restaurant again!
I must admit they do a good souvlaki and especially late at night after a few bars, but the meals at the table not so good, and service seemed like they didn't really want to help.
Approximate cost: $15.00
Best souvlaki in town!!! Love the mixed lamb and chicken souvlaki with extra tzatziki sauce. The meats are so tender and nicely seasoned.
Dined here with a friend for lunch recently. The service was appalling-we could not get the attention of waiters passing by. After we finished our drinks (before the mains came out) we were not asked if we wanted any more.
The food was ok. There are better places to eat in Melbourne, with far better service.
Have eaten here a few times for dinner over the past years. If you haven't booked then be prepared to wait as its pretty busy at night. Usually get the shared meat platter. Its a bit pricy but you get a decent amount with a variety of meats(enough to feed 3 unless all three are big meat eaters).
