Quality of the food is definitely up there, but as for the taste, I was expecting better given all the publicity and rave reviews.

Location is great, decor is simple yet elegant.

Nobu brings up names such as Robert Di Niro and Nobu Matsuhisa in the one sentence. Strange but true. This place is reknown for great food, atmosphere and avant garde Japanese with tradtional styles rolled into one. One thing's for sure is that the price in this place matches the quality - order anything and you can be sure that it's the best of the best. If you ever wondered what it would be like to be on the panel of tasters in Iron Chef or master chef, visit Nobu. We went with a group of 16 (and you can imagine the bill aftewards - enough for someone to fly to Tokyo...!!) and no one was dissapointed and everyone was talking about the food for weeks afterwards. Sushi and Sahimi was the freshest I've tasted. Soft Shell Crab, tempura rolls, duck, waguy gyoza were all superb. Serivce was a bit slow and sometimes difficult to catch a waiter - well it was Saturday night! Overall, great food, reasonable service, and food that matches the price - no complaints! Serving sizes are not particularly large, allowing you to try a range of dishes, however that means the bill does go up. Wine and drinks list is extensive and can be tailored to the dishes ordered.

Great food, definitely recommend the dessert bento box and wagyu beef. Lovely decor. Staffs were very friendly, in providing information needed. Was really expensive, but great experience. Will revisit when i get my pay rise.

the food are beautifully prepared and tastes fantastic. I love the service, the variety and the artistry by the chefs. The only issue i have is the price. I wouldn't go there every week - but definately for special occasions.

This is my favourite restaurant EVER! I have been to a couple of them throughout the world, but i still think the Melbourne version is the best. We have such fresh produce, and given the Nobu twist, everything tastes amazing. I can't rate this restaurant highly enough. I would eat there every day if i could afford it!

I absolutely love this place. Its very expensive and can be a little crowded but in my opinion the service and the quality of food is fantastic.

Thy the banquet kind of option. And you can just tell them to exclude/include parts of it. Eventually 10+ dishes come out that are amazing and let you try a wide variety.

Definitely recommended if you can spare a couple hundred.

I brought my wife to Nobu during our 5 years wedding anniversary at Southbank few months ago. First of all, I tasted the hot sake ($28 per serve) and its the best sake I've ever tasted in Melbourne. It is as smooth as silk and after second serve, I can really feel its strength !! The food is amazing. We first tried their famous grilled Cod fish ($30 +). Its a small serve but I can assure you, you will never forget the amazing taste of it. One of the best ever tasted !! We later had a plate of sushi and two other main course. The food and environment is just too perfect but it come with a cost. It cost us > $200 ++ for the dinner, but its all worth it.

My partner brought me to Nobu for my birthday this year, knowing that I was especially excited about it as I was taken to Nobu many years ago as a teenager in New York. We both had the omokase menu, the food was lovely, just as I remembered, but the atmosphere in the downstairs dining room where we seated was a little noisy and 'club-y' - it's a big room and quite echo-y. The service was very competent and we enjoyed the evening thoroughly.

EDIT: I came back for Christmas dinner 2010 with friends visiting from overseas, and the standards are still being upheld. We treated ourselves to the omokase again, and all of it was so delicious. We were obviously enjoying ourselves so much that a couple recently seated next to our table leant over to ask what we were eating!

Alot of hype about Nobu so decided to try it out. Normally I am used to ordering an entree and then the main meal. Instead everything arrived out all at once. I must say food was really nice, lovely decor inside, but would I rave about it?? No!!but others would beg to differ. Been a vegetarian can be difficult as there is not always a great selection

Approximate cost: $50

You have waiters dedicated to your table and who will spend time looking through the menu with you to ensure that your order will be satisfactory and pleasing when it gets served. Upon serving the food, the waiter will introduce the dish and recommend how it should be eaten and what the dish is made of.

The freshness of the sashimi and the novelty of the unique dishes there are definitely plus points to this restaurant. Go there for an experience of Japanese fusion of food coupled with commendable service.

Approximate cost: $23
