My favourite dish is the tofu curry as I prefer a tofu steak over cuts of stringy or hard bits of meat. The meat is not all that bad just not the best and I love tofu.
Quick and easy even when there's a line out the door. Order at the counter, cash only and wait on the right for your order. There's a cutlery and chilli powder station there where you can help yourself to napkins, spoons and extra seasoning which I always do.

Staff are friendly and respond promptly.
Seating is cramped but ok, as it's a busy place so expect to sit at the communal table or sit less than a meter away from someone else. It's enjoyable enough.

Recommended for a good, quick and easy Japanese feed. Simple, cheap menu, dishes are about $6-7 and around $10 for the bento.

First time trying this place out and unfortunately was disappointed. Cheap and nasty with the beef tasting gritty. The mayonaise people rave on about was horrible, did not like it all all. This place is so not for me. Prices are cheap though but cheap and better food available elsewhere. Fast service from production line cooks.

Great place for the most affordable, tasty japanese cuisine. Served very fast and always leaves me satisfied. The portions are also quite large. I would definitely recommend the teriyaki don.

Great place for a cheap but tasty meal. It's always busy but the service is fast so you're never waiting long. There isn't really a lot of eating options around that part of South Melbourne, so it's awesome to have such a yummy place like Don Don there. Never had a bad meal here.

Best japanese curry in the whole of melbourne and cheap too. The sauce is so rich and authentic, and they are always very generous with the sauce. The chicken are grilled to perfection and taste delicious.

The food here is always reliable and good value for money. The curries are popular, and the grilled chicken, even without any sauce, is smokey and tender. My favourite is the sashi don, with lots of salad, raw salmon or ocean trout and rice. Only problem is the amount of chicken or beef can vary according to the time of the day that you go. I reckon lunch times are the best. The service is always prompt and polite.

If you want Cheap Quick Tasty Japanese these guys are awesome. The portions are huge and without a queue you can be in and out so fast. Every Lunchtime its packed with a queue out the door. The food is solid student fare but not lacking in taste.

What more can I say?! The food is given to you as soon as your change hits your hand, most meals you can get for $10.00 or less and will stuff you to the brim & it tastes great!
Teriyaki don is one of the best, very filling for around $6.00!

Don Don is very close to my partner's office in South Melbourne, and sometimes on my days off, we meet up for lunch. Invariably, we end up at Don Don. With a small menu of well executed Japanese standards, all at an excellent price, no wonder we always go there! The service is cheerful, and your meals are usually ready by the time you've paid and moved to the side. I personally love the Japanese style curry chicken, and the Don Don box which contains rice, salad, teriyaki chicken, sukiyaki beef and some fruit, really satisfies when you're starved.
