I was looking for a nice place to take my wife for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary so I jumped on WOMOW and checked out restaurants in the Hobart area. In doing so I found "Shippie's as it is affectionately known by locals."

I called and booked as it was reputed to be a fairly busy venue. Upon arrival I was a little disappointed initially as it took a little while for the staff to acknowledge us and direct us to our table, however, once we were there, it was all positive.

After reading some of the reviews, I anticipated a bit of a wait for our meals to be served, but were pretty happy with the timings. The wait was no more or less than I'd expect in any similar busy venue.

The food was fantastci. I went for the Cajun Chicken breast with a Mustard Aioli, and my wife went for the Mushroom Risotto and both were sensational. The serves were generous and good value for money.

I'll certainly be dining here again, and I wouldn't have known about it without WOMOW.

Quiet a nice little place to have a counter meal, i had the chicken breast with chips which was quiet nice, they have a good wide variety on the menu and prices were reasonable and friednly staff. Quiet a nice place to go for a meal.

This is a great place to have a drink and a meal. The hotel itself has a great story behind it and although it is a little out of the way from the main restaurant/bar areas at the wharfs it's worth a visit. Prices are reasonable and the staff are always smiling.

This pub is listed in the book 'A Walk in Old Hobart' and I believe it's Charles Woolley's local watering hole (from 60 minutes fame).
They serve a yummy thick seafood chowder which is almost a meal in itself. The steak melts in your mouth and accompanying sauces are very tasty.
Be prepared to wait a while for your meal, so take along some good friends to chat to.

Shipwrights has melt in your mouth steak and chicken - one of the few places I eat steak. The meals come with yummy stir fry vegetables, which you can also order as a side dish - I often just have that as it's so yummy!

They do fresh a 'cob loaf' which you can enjoy as you're waiting for your meal.

Great atmosphere. Make sure you have a booking as fill up, particularly on a friday and saturday night. Great for small or large groups.

This is one of the few pubs you can go to that don't have pokies, TAB or any other form of betting. What a novelty!
Although you generally have to wait 1 hour for your meal, the food is worth the wait. The staff tend to leave you alone which can be great if you want an uninterrupted meal, but a bit annoying if you're trying to get another drink.

Approximate cost: $20
