Why does the chef serve bangers and mash in a bowl. It's hard to eat, everything mashes together, it makes you feel like a child eating your meal out of a bowl. We've complained and asked for a plate and the chef refuses. Why. It's not fancy. Just embarrassing and inconvenient.

Good family atmosphere. Friendly service. Standard average pub food. Accommodating for dietary requirements. Easy parking.

I have avoided going here for years because of the lousy meals and service, however my friend wanted to experience the Split the Bill offer here so I reluctantly agreed to accompany her. It was a Monday and the place was quite quiet. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. The cook/chef came out to say Hi and she certainly did us a lovely meal of Atlantic Salmon with Hollandais sauce on a bed of rice & bok choy. She is a good chef so maybe this hotel can start imrpoving its reputation. I will return again.

It is hit and miss with this hotel, annoying as we live so close, glad you had a good experience

My husband and I decided to try somewhere different for lunch last sunday, so the Highbury Hotel was our choice as we were in the area.

Very spacious, clean dining area with a couple of booths (if you want a booth, you need to book ahead). We found the temperature was quite warm, we were hoping we were going to have a delicious meal and be comfortable, but we were not. Also, it was not very busy, yet it was so loud, everyones voice seemed to echo.

For our meals, we started with the trio of dips and bread, we absolutely loved it, very fresh and tasty. For mains I had the chicken schnitzel with peppercorn gravy, salad and chips. I enjoyed my schnitzel, chips and gravy but the salad was the size of a small cup and contained one small wedge of tomato, one small slice of cucumber, a little grated carrot and a couple of lettuce leaves, with basically no dressing, it was bland and not what I would call salad. My husband ordered the seafood platter for $22, not worth it! It consisted of one very small piece of fish which he said was tasteless and soggy, he was suppose to have three prawns but received two, he said they didn't taste nice so didn't mind no receiving the third one and he was also shortchanged with his calamari. His meal came with chips and salad aswell. His salad was the same as mine, quite disappointing. He said he regretted ordering the seafood platter and should have gone with the steak.

However, the staff were very friendly and there was no waiting time for our starter, it arrived shortly after we were seated and then mains around 10 minutes later.

But, overall, not an experience we wish to repeat, so therefore will not be returning.

Sad to say that seems to be the general experience, total disappointment. We were just lucky the day we got a really nice meal. Its too risky to try again.

I was part of a group of 18 for my nephew's 12th birthday (there were diners at only 3 other tables on a Sunday evening). The menu wasn't very adventurous (standard steak, schnitzel, salt & pepper squid etc)
It began badly with the garlic bread - 4 slices of bread roll, barely room temperature, with the garlic butter not even melted into the bread
While the staff seemed friendly and helpful, they were severely let down by the kitchen. A lamb yiros salad turned out to be over-cooked beef, fat and sinew; that was replaced by a grilled chicken asian salad, which turned out to be very dry chicken accompanied by julienned red cabbage, carrot, spring onion, capsicum and noodles. In fact, it looked exactly like the "garnish" placed on my steak. It wasn't eaten, and money was refunded
My $29 scotch fillet, while very tender as it should be, was so charred on the outside that all I could taste was char; I couldn't taste the meat at all, just a charcoal taste and texture; it was very unappetising, and left unfinished. Another person had their medium steak cooked to well done.
Two of the kids had pizza (apparently they have a wood-fired oven). This was nowhere to be seen in the pizzas that were delivered to the table, with the pizzas being overloaded with cheese and little flavour
The chicken schnitzels were over-crumbed, over-cooked, and appeared mass-manufactured; definitely not enjoyable, especially for the prices paid
The consensus was that none of us would be returning, ever, and no doubt that message is going to be spread

This has been a terrible place to eat for years, but don't complain as nobody gets back to you.

Quite the standard 'hotel', the food and service are all adequate, but nothing is too special. The prices are generally a little higher than expected, but the Highbury Hotel always offers discount vouchers on shopper dockets, which is what has drawn me back more than one time. Unfortunately the line up to order can be a little lengthy at busy times, however the discounts available with the all too common shopper dockets can make the trip worthwhile.

My experience at the Highbury Hotel have been quite pleasant. The food is pretty similar to a lot of other hotel/pub kinds of food, but if that is your intention when stepping in, you generally won't be disappointed. I ordered a chicken schnitzel which was enjoyable, though in my opinion its pretty hard to mess up something like that. The service was friendly and polite, however you are required to line up at the cashier, which took a while. Overall, the prices are standard, unless you find a coupon for it behind a docket, or if you go on a day where they discount particular dishes.

Firstly the set up of this place is NOT child-friendly even though they heavily promote kids meal deals and the playground. The playground is set in a small glass room to the side of the dining area, and kids are not visible from the majority of tables. The door to the room is heavy so the likelihood of damage to fingers is high. On a Sunday night a band plays quite loudly until around 6. The pricing is good, particularly kids meals for $7.90 which includes drink and icecream. However, they had run out of icecream (!!!!) so gave the kids a super dooper instead!!!! the woman who took our order was good, but when my 4 year old spilt a drink the woman that I told acted as though it was the end of the world ... um, you base your business on families and then can't cope with what that entails. The kids meals looked good and were very large but would have benefitted from a salad. I had salt and pepper squid which was very floury. Won't go back.

The Highbury Hotel is nice for a pub meal. Nothing special, but good food at respectable prices. They also feature in the entertainment book making it very good value.
