I was brought here a few years back by a couple of friends that love to head to Newtown. I was very impressed with my first experience there & have since been back a countless amount of times. Every time I head there I can honestly say that I leave extremely satisfied.
The place has a really cool, laid back vibe that you come to expect from establishments based in Newtown. There is plenty of space inside & out for customers & I have never had to wait for a table whether it be on a weeknight, Saturday night or Sunday afternoon (although there always seems to be a good crowd there). Urban Bites hosts a very comprehensive menu with breakfast, lunch & dinner all lined up for you. A couple of personal recommendations: The Hot Chips with the Garlic Aioli, the Lamb Souvlaki, the pancakes & any of their salads - delicious!
There is a bar located on site so you can have a few quite drinks with your meal, or a few more than that if you're a uni student during study period. but if you're like me and love a good coffee with a meal then you won't be disappointed here, the coffee is excellent.
A couple of points to consider before heading to Urban Bites:
1) It can be pretty difficult to get a parking spot considering it's in Newtown, so cater for time spent looking for a park - chances are you will end up having to pay for parking.
2) The main meals can set you back around $20 & up - but don't let the prices scare you off, the portion sizes are very generous - just bring a big appetite!
Overall, this is my favourite cafe in Newtown, great vibe, lovely food, quality coffee & always friendly service - definitely check this place out if you're in the area!
Approximate cost: $20+
I went here last night for the first time and I loved it. The atmosphere was great, the staff super friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. We ordered a seafood platter for two which ended up feeding three of us because it was very generous and reasonably priced too. I will have to come back to this place!
This sounds like an exciting new place for me to check out, thankyou!
good location and staff are always accomodating and friendly. lots of seating both indoor and out and with choice of shaded or in the sun. food prices are not cheap, but not dear either.
i have breakfast here with friends. It was really, surprisingly, good. Poached eggs were perfect, service fab, and all the things we asked for were delivered. Its got a nice courtyard that you and your pooch can sit in.
Approximate cost: $14

Met with my Manager here for Brunch last Sunday and had a great breakfast, the service was first rate, Cecily, was a hoot and made our hole table have a laugh and she is so up with the arts and knows some great quotes. Matt, more my managers friend also has a cool austere way about him and keep us amuzed, flirted with the boss and made a good tip, so it works.
Food very good, and the poached eggs with spinach and Holandaise sauce is a treat. Coffees very nice as was GF Chai.
One of my favourite Cafes. Matt and Cecile are both wonderful. I love the ambiance, food and coffee.
nice little friendly place had the pancakes with strawberries and icecream was nice,im vegetarian and they have some vegetaarian meals which are great
This is by all accounts the "In" place at the moment it has very good service and lovely staff who are always up for a chat. The food is very good and theres a great selection including some choices for Vegetarians.
There is a young waiter there that is just charming and sweet and makes the visit a treat. I enjoy the cafe even though at times it can mean waiting for a table. Its well worth it though.
Nice trendy place to hang and have coffee and a snack. Lovely friendly service. Love their photo wall.
Busy so left 'hanging' waiting for a table but service was fine once seated. I enjoyed my caprese salad and the pancakes with fresh strawberries and ice cream and cream were yummy. Very typical of Newtown but I would go there again
The Waitress was very nice and attentive once she organized a table. And we did get to see my Favourite waiter again. He is such a cutie.
Revisited this weekend and i was not disappointed, Cecily our waitress is a delight and Matt the manager friendly and approachable. My chicken and mushroom risotto was delicious and cooked perfectly. Buzzing with diners
